An optimizational approach for an algorithmic reassembly of fragmented objects

چکیده

In Cambodia close to the Thai border lies the Angkor style temple of Banteay Chhmar. Like most nearly forgotten temples in remote places it crumbles under the ages most of it being only a heap of stones by today. To help modern day archeologists, who are using 3D data acquisition to document such temples, a team of the IWR went in-situ to acquire some 200 stones for a virtual reconstruction [2]. This approach has the potential to be much faster than the manual one, reduce the further deterioration of the stones and enhance the worker’s security. The pictures to the right show the state of the temple and the acquisition process using a structured-light stereo vision 3D scanner.

An Overview of Methods for Automatic Reassembly of Fragmented Objects

In this chapter the authors outline some research works characteristic for the application of Signal Processing and Pattern Analysis techniques to the automatic reconstruction / reassembly of fragmented archaeological objects. The studies described in the chapter cover in their application cases a variety of archaeological objects, ranging from documents and wall-paintings to pots and sculpture...

Parallel Genetic Algorithm Using Algorithmic Skeleton

Algorithmic skeleton has received attention as an efficient method of parallel programming in recent years. Using the method, the programmer can implement parallel programs easily. In this study, a set of efficient algorithmic skeletons is introduced for use in implementing parallel genetic algorithm (PGA).A performance modelis derived for each skeleton that makes the comparison of skeletons po...

Automatic Reassembly of Document Fragments via Context Based Statistical Models

Reassembly of fragmented objects from a collection of randomly mixed fragments is a common problem in classical forensics. In this paper we address the digital forensic equivalent, i.e., reassembly of document fragments, using statistical modelling tools applied in data compression. We propose a general process model for automatically analyzing a collection fragments to reconstruct the original...
